The Cambodian Center for Independent Media has conducted a research on the media situation in Cambodia during the first quarter of this year. The research is one of the activities of the project entitled "Enhancing Independent  Media in Cambodia" funded by the European Institute for Human Rights and Democracy (EIDHR) of the European Union.

 Almost a hundred journalists, including representatives from non-governmental organization (NGO), academe, and government ministries and agencies joined together in a conference called"Cambodian Media: Promotion of Professionalism and Ethics" organized by the Cambodian Center for Independent Media (CCIM) and Press Council of Cambodia (PCC) with support from the European Union

H.E. Thach Phen, Secretary of Ministry of Information delivered his opening remarks after Mr. Seth Van Doorn, Political Advisor to the European Commission's Delegation to Cambodia welcomed the participants. After the opening speeches, a panel discussion followed with Mr. Om Chandara, PCC President who talked about "Professionalism: Problems and Resolutions"; Mr. Teruo Jinnai. UNESCO Representative in Cambodia who talked about "Journalism Ethics: Problems and Resolutions"; and Stephen Kurczy and Claire Duffet, both journalists and lecturers at Royal University ofPhnom Penh (RUPP) who talked about "Objectivity of Cambodian Media."

After the panel discussion, the participants continue their discussions into small groups. Three groups were formed to discuss about the priority issues and recommendations related to professionalism and ethics in Cambodian media.

CCIM Plans to Organize Cambodian Journalists Conference on June 17 PDF Print E-mail

The Cambodian Center for Independent Media (CCIM) is organizing a conference entitled “Cambodian Media: Promotion of Professionalism and Ethics” on June 17, 2009 at the Imperial Garden Villa & Hotel, Phnom Penh, Cambodia from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The purpose of the conference is to “bring in Cambodian journalists from different corners to discuss journalistic professionalism and ethics;” and “Find a way that Cambodian journalists may work in solidarity to improve journalistic professionalism and ethics. The conference will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The conference is part of CCIM's project entitled “Enhancing Independent Media in Cambodia” funded by European Commission (EC) under its program European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR).

The Cambodian Center for Independent Media (CCIM) organized the 2nd Conference of Cambodian journalists on Code of Ethics on October 27, 2009 at the Juliana Hotel, Phnom Penh. The conference was attended by more than a hundred Cambodian journalists, including those who are based in the provinces.

The participants approved the Common Code of Ethics for Cambodian journalists and expressed their willingness to support it and continue to improve it. 

The conference was being supported by the European Union and the Cambodia office of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) of the United Nation. CCIM organized the conference in collaboration with number of Cambodian journalist associations through the Press Council of Cambodia (PCC) and the Cambodia Press Working Group.
