As of today, VOD produces the following radio programs. For the schedule of radio programs for Radio Sarika FM 106.5 MHz in Phnom Penh and Radio Sarika FM 95.5 MHz (Radio Angkor Ratha) in Siem Reap, please visit www.sarika.fm.
1. Morning News The Morning News is a presentation of news items reported by different newspapers. During the period, this program is scheduled from 6:02 – 6:17 a.m. from Monday to Sunday and hosted by Mr. Sakhom. The host and another staff work together to review the newspapers issued in the morning for the presentation. After this period, this program is changed to 6:02 to 7:00 a.m. from Monday to Friday.
2. News Plus This program is a presentation of current and controversial news chosen during the week. The host will call by phone personalities to get their comments and opinions on the chosen news item. During the period this program was not successfully implemented due to lack of staffs. After the review of assignments of staffs, this program will run after this period from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. from Monday to Friday and will be hosted by Mr. Chanthon.
3. Breaking News This is a five-minute straight news reporting with news reports from the assigned reporters. A news presenter is assigned daily in each presentation. Breaking News is presented six times a day from Monday to Friday on the following time schedule: 9:00 a.m.; 10:00 a.m.; 11:00 a.m.; 1:00 p.m.; 3:00 p.m.; and 4:00 p.m. All the staffs with assignments on news program, as indicated in Table 6 above, contribute news articles as agreed in the daily editorial meetings.
4. Afternoon News This is a 30 minute presentation of news reports from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m. from Monday to Sunday. Some of the news items reported by Breaking News in the morning are also presented in this news program. The news presenter is assigned daily.
5. Evening News The Evening News is also a 30-minute bulletin news from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. from Monday to Sunday. It is a presentation of selected news report presented during the day and new news items prepared for this program. The news presenter is assigned daily.
6. Earth Talk
Program Format: Divided into 3 parts: Live discussion with guests from gov’t, NGOs working on environment networks, NGOs, and government; Call-in discussion with listeners; and drama contest Schedule: 6:30-7:30 p.m. every Wednesday Program Duration: No. 19, 2008 to May 20, 2009 Producers & Hosts: Ms. Sunry & Mr. Vannak (Project staff and VOD member) Program Funding: Bilateral Programme Fund – British Embassy This radio program is the main activity of the project related to climate change. The project included a rapid survey of people’s opinion on climate change in selected provinces to have a baseline data of how people understand about climate change in Cambodia. This survey opinion continued through the radio program after a number of episodes of live discussion with guest from government, NGO and private groups. The radio drama contest is actually a radio scrip writing contest. Around 30 students were invited and trained on radio drama script writing. After the training they were invited to submit entries of radio drama scripts. These scripts were produced by selected VOD/Radio Sarika FM staffs. The dramas are played during the radio episodes and invite listeners to give their rating to the drama through SMS. The winners of the radio drama will be announced sometime in May and prizes will be awarded. The project will conclude by submitting a report to the government on people’s opinions and recommendations on the issues related to climate change in Cambodia.
7. Golden Road Program Format: Talk show with invited guest Schedule: 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. Monday to Wednesday Program Duration: March 2009 until the completion of 11 episodes Producer / Host: Ms. Narin (a project officer of the EU-funded project) Program Funding: None “Golden Road” is a program that provides opportunities successful persons to share their experiences and knowledge to listeners. Radio listeners are also invited to who have problems and want help or suggestion from other audiences. The program producer invited people who have a lot of experiences or struggle in life to be guest speakers to talk about their specific experience. The program also accommodates call-ins from the listeners to ask question to the guest speakers or provide some suggestions and comments.
8. Pen for Peace Program Format: Live discussion with invited guests; accommodates call-in Schedule: 8:00 – 9:00 a.m.; every Friday Program Duration: Two years: January 2009 – December 2010 Producer: Ms. Narin (project officer for this program) Hosts: Mr. Pa Nguon Teang; Ms. Narin and Mr. Setha Program Funding: European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) - EU This radio program is part of the project entitled “Enhancing Independent Media in Cambodia” which aimed at promoting independent media. The project includes activities such as holding conference of Cambodian journalists and facilitating the organizing of a unified Cambodian journalist association, facilitating the unification of standard code of ethics for Cambodian journalist, and supporting media advocacy on laws related to media particularly the broadcast laws. The invited guests for the radio programs are Cambodian journalists representing various Cambodian journalist associations, government officials involve in media such as the Ministry of Information and National Assembly commissions, and personalities from NGOs working on media issues.
9. Roundtable Program Format: Live discussion with invited guests from the government and NGOs, also human rights victims; accommodates callers Schedule: 6:30-7:30 p.m.; every Thursday Program Duration: All-year round Producer / Host: Mr. Pa Nguon Teang (CCIM Director) Program Funding: None This “Roundtable” has been an original production of VOD since its beginning. It is a program where listeners expect to hear from political party personalities who are mostly member of the National Assembly. It discusses issues related to democracy, human rights, politics, economy, and other national issues. The word “Roundtable” has become a common term for Cambodians referring to discussion, particularly on-air live discussions.
10. Owner’s Future Program Format: Live discussion with invited youth leaders; accommodates callers Schedule: 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.; every Saturday Program Duration: January – March 2009 Producer/Host: Mr. Vy and Ms. Nimol (both are VOD news team members) Program Funding: Friedrich Newman Foundation (FNF) This radio program targets Cambodian youth encouraging them to study and practice to use their freedom to discuss and debate on issues through radio program. Studio guests are mostly coming from universities.
11. Life Foundation Program Format: Live discussion with invited guests from government, NGOS, academe working on the dissemination of human rights concepts; accept callers Schedule: 6:30-7:30 p.m.; every Tuesday Program Duration: February – March 2009 Producer / Host: Ms. Theary (member of VOD news team) Program Funding: Cambodia Office of the United Nation Office of the Commission of Human Rights (CO-UNOHCHR) “Life Foundation” is a basically a human rights education program on-air. Each episode is devoted to discuss specific provision of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UNDHR) and aims to educate the listeners about the different concepts of human rights. Listeners are also encouraged to call in and participate in the discussion by asking questions or sharing opinions.
12. Good Service Good Society Program Title: Good Service, Good Society Program Format: Live discussion with invited guests from organizations working on social accountability issues Schedule: 6:30 – 7:00 p.m.; every Friday Program Duration: March – May 2009 Producer / Host: Ms. Neang (member of VOD news team) Program Funding: Affiliated Alliance for Social Accountability in East Asia and Pacific (ANSA-EAP) “Good Service, Good Society” is a radio program under the project “Reporting of Social Accountability Issues: Empowering the Journalists and Citizens to Report Social Accountability Issues through the Broadcast Radio.” This project included two activities which were implemented at the beginning of the project in January 2009. These activities were the training of Cambodian journalists on social accountability reporting with a journalist-trainer from the Philippines and training on social accountability for community activists (citizen journalists). After the two activities, the radio program began.
13. Asia Calling The “Asia Calling” is an English radio program produced by the Asia Calling - KBR 6H in Indonesia. A partnership agreement between CCIM and Asia Calling to translate the program into Khmer version and broadcast on Radio Sarika FM. The English version is also broadcast on Radio Sarika FM. This partnership began in 2007. |
